Day 5

Today was another great morning! As usual, I woke up and went to get a tea from my local cafe next door. By now, they are used to me bringing my own mug. After that, I went home to have breakfast, an apple with peanut butter, and started getting ready for work. Surprisingly, I’ve made my morning routine as low-waste as possible! With the new knowledge that my cotton swabs and cotton balls are compostable,  I actually don’t have to throw anything in the trash while getting ready for the day.

At work I actually had so many customers stay or use a ceramic mug, that I actually ran out at one point in the day. I feel like maybe I’m making a small impact there too, a lot of people are regulars and we’ve had really great discussions about this project and why I’m doing it. Someone even offered to sew a reusable sleeve for me, since he has one of his own that he uses every day.

I came home, prepared some leftovers from last night’s dinner and then something I was really hoping to not deal with happened. *DISCLAIMER* If you do not want to read about feminine hygiene, AVERT YOUR EYES

AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! I got my period early. I’ve thought about it already, and have decided to continue using my tampons and pads until my stock has run out, and then make a decision on getting a reusable menstrual cup. I feel like this will help me ease into the idea since this low-waste project is still very new.

The good news is, if I hadn’t had to use a tampon or pad, I would have made ZERO WASTE TODAY <3!!!!!

To settle my stomach, I’ve decided to eat the 1 litre mason jar of gummy worms in my pantry and watch Spaceballs.

Today’s Trash List

One tampon and one pad

Day 3: 2 pieces of waste.

  1. FWIW, I started using the Lily Cup last year after being hounded by a friend of mine who claimed it was life changing.

    She was completely right.

It is so much more comfortable than pads or tampons, there’s absolutely no comparison. The fact that it’s waste free and is over time so much cheaper than pads or tampons is a bonus! I have the collapsible version which makes storing it very easy and discreet.

It took a couple of periods to get used to it, but once I had? Best thing ever. I’d definitely encourage you to give it a go.
