I can’t believe it’s been a whole week. This week has been a bit more challenging than expected, but I learned a lot and made a little post about it here! If I’ve learned anything in my first week, it’s that making these conscious decisions wasn’t only difficult but was making me more aware of my waste. By following the “Only 5 Pieces of Waste” rule, I had to have a good reason to create waste, which really helped me understand what is important to me, and what I could live without.
The main goal of this project was to learn; to learn about why we make so much waste, where we could cut out using plastic, and how to lead a normal life while still making small changes with large personal impact. I already see after just one week, I’ve already lowered my ecological footprint.

I broke a rule today: I bought something new. A local shop in the market near my house, but still a new item. On the up side, it was a set of adorable reusable gold straws! Now I can continue making my smoothies and drinking my iced drinks while looking sleek and chic.
In the morning, I went to shoot with a my wonderfully talented friend. He’s a painter who creates these amazing large scale paintings of photos he’s taken of people. We did about 30 minutes of photos, getting different angles so he could potentially pick something for his newest show in a few months.
After that, I went to work, another normal great day. In all the rush of the morning I had no time to prepare food and just ended up just eating an apple with the peanut butter I got from bulk barn.
Now, I have some of the best friends, I really do. They are the type of people who bring you food when you’re sick, who surprise you in the morning with coffee when you’re hungover. They’re the types of people who hear if you’re having a bad day or a good day, they will surprise you and take you out and do something new and fun. I say this, because my friends are constantly surprising me, and Day 7 was no different.
One of my friends unexpectedly came to pick me up from work, took me to a really nice dinner and then a great show to see some local bands. Again, like I said, I have the best friends. I ordered a drink, but didn’t realize the venue only served in plastic cups. Also, they don’t let you take drinks out of the bar, even if it’s just an empty cup. So of course, because I have to blog every piece of waste I make, I went to the bathroom looking incredibly sketchy, and snuck the plastic cup into my bag. I’ve decided I’m going to make the best use of it, so I’m going to take it to work, clean it out, and use it to hold all of our elastic bands, since they are usually scattered in 17 different places. I went home after the show to watch 2 episodes of A Series of Unfortunate Events. I love Neil Patrick Harris, and honestly those were the best books when I was a kid.
I also have some cool news, I’m moving! (Hence the clear tape in the photo, I am packing up some recycled moving boxes right now since I’m moving in two weeks) This means I’ll have more DIYs, more recipes, and a new home to share it all in!
