Day 11

Another rainy day in Toronto. I woke up early when Ryan went to work, and couldn’t fall back asleep. I made a smoothie and typed out Day 10, but completely blanked on posting it (which is why it’s a day late!)

I went to work, all was usual and great. No strange characters or funny stories, just the usual busy crowd of office folks and downtown families. The work day seems to pass by so much quicker when it’s busy. A lot of people have been sending me questions about my work, how we manage our waste and what I do at work to reduce my waste. We get busy, really busy sometimes, but most people are either sitting in or taking coffee to go. The people who stay, usually get their drinks in mugs, which is why we don’t throw out a lot of cups in our recycling. The other thing is, and this is probably just a Canadian thing, but our milk comes in bags! That means a lot less space in the recycling bin for tetra packs and milk cartons. We don’t sell any pre-packaged foods either, so we don’t throw out much plastic in general besides the milk bags. We only carry a few pastries and cookies, so that eliminates a huge need for plastic, and again these go in biodegradable paper bags, or on plates.

After work, I went to do another trade, and got an awesome inflatable queen size mattress for a movie certificate I’ve had for months in my wallet. Ryan and my neighbours were barbecuing some meat and veggies from the butcher and grocer nearby, so that was a nice dinner surprise for me as I was expecting to eat leftovers and whatever else was in the fridge. After that we all just went to our local bar for a few drinks and went home.

 

I’m happy to say, today was my FIRST ZERO WASTE DAY 😀
