Day 15

I’m starting to get sick, and I know it because I can feel that tickle in the back of my throat, and my back is getting sore. These are the tell tale signs that A) I’m definitely getting a cold and B) Spring is almost here. Whenever the weather changes I get sick, but spring means no more snow and that makes me very happy.

I woke up and made a smoothie before heading to work. I usually make smoothies when I’m starting to feel sick or need a pick me up or honestly, when I’m hungover. The method to my smoothies is half health reasons and half because I have nothing else in my fridge.

Here’s my super easy and quick recipe:

  • 1 cup frozen fruit
  • 1/4 cup rolled oats (this helps make you feel full)
  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter (some protein)
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1/2 cup orange juice or any juice
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons E3Live (a blue green algae)
  • 1 teaspoon ground flax seeds
  • A handful of spinach

This generally makes more than enough for me for breakfast, and gives me the boost I need to start my day.

I went to work still feeling pretty tired, but pulled through the slow day. By the time I was closing up, I wanted to go home so badly I cleaned up as quickly as possible and left a little early. I went home and made pasta with my meat sauce I keep in the fridge for times when I’m too exhausted to cook. It was an early night, and Ryan and I both being sick, went to bed around 9:30.

The day overall was great,  as my newsfeed wash flooded with photos and videos of the women’s marches across the globe. I’m so glad to know that there are so many people in the world who want to fight for true equality, not just for men and women, but for POC, indigenous people, members of the LGBTQ community, and more.

I grew up believing all humans are equal, no matter what race, religion, sexual orientation, or personal choices they make. I think it’s really amazing to see the new generation caring so much about making the future a better place to be, and they are fighting for what they believe is right. I hope this protest continues past just one day of marching, and people will continue to stand up for others and reach the goal of equality for all types of people.

Today was another great zero-waste day, so I’m using an old photo of me at my cafe 😀
